Abstract:

Supernovae and neutron star mergers play a crucial role in the production of heavy elements in the universe, with the equation of state (EOS) of neutron star matter being key to understanding these phenomena. In this talk, I will present recent advancements in our understanding of the neutron star EOS, integrating insights from chiral effective field theory calculations, results from neutron skin experiments, and observations of gravitational waves. I will also discuss possible scenarios of quark-hadron phase transitions and their potential signatures the oscillation modes, which may be detectable by the third generation of gravitational wave detectors.

Biography:

Tianqi Zhao is a postdoctoral fellow with the Network for Neutrinos, Nuclear Astrophysics, and Symmetries (N3AS). He graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2015 and earned his PhD in physics from Stony Brook University in 2021, under the supervision of Prof. James Lattimer. After completing doctoral studies, Zhao worked as a postdoctoral research associate with Prof. Madappa Prakash at Ohio University, continuing research on neutron star physics.
