Description
Abstract

I will review how field theories of non-relativistic composite bosons, relativistic scalar fields, and bosonized Luttinger liquids enter the theory of Quantum Hall liquids, and how these approaches are related.

Biography

He is Member of Royal Academy of Sciences and he is Member of the Nobel Committee in Physics. He has held research positions at MIT and CERN, and he has been assistant professor at State University of New York in Stony Brook. His early work is in theoretical particle/nuclear physics. He wrote widely cited articles for example on the MIT Bag Model phenomenology and high temperature QCD with Robert Jaffe. Subsequently his interest turned to condensed matter physics, including early work on fractional statistics and in particular various aspects of quantum Hall effect. Among his remarkable articles is one on fractional quantum Hall effect that he co-authored with Zhang Shou-Cheng and that has over 1.000 citations.
