Description

Abstract:

To understand the spin structure of a nucleon is a fundamental goal of nuclear science. After half a century of investigations, our knowledge of the nucleon spin structure has made impressive progress. However, our current understanding is basically one-dimensional. Meanwhile, the past two decades have witnessed tremendous experimental achievements, which led to fascinating new insights into the 3-D structure of the nucleon through semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes (SIDIS).
In this talk, I will mainly focus on the experimental efforts for the study of transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs), highlighting key results from JLab and COMPASS, and discussing the transformative potential of coming electron-ion colliders.

Biography:

Prof. Yuxiang Zhao (赵宇翔) is a physicist at Institute of Modern Physics. He has been mainly working on the nucleon structure study via polarized lepton-nucleon deep inelastic scatterings in JLab (US), COMPASS (CERN) and future EICs. He received his Bachelor’s degree and Ph.D degree at USTC in 2010 and 2015, respectively, and joined IMP as a physicist in 2019 after postdoc experience at Stony Brook University and INFN-Trieste.
