Linu
Linux
Linu
\nHave you ever been in the middle of writing a pa
per when your system forces a restart for updates\, and all your unsaved c
hanges are lost? Or turned on your computer only to be greeted by pop-up a
ds? Or had your machine slow to a crawl or even freeze when running a mode
rately demanding application? These pain points that Windows users have gr
own accustomed to are virtually nonexistent on Linux. Linux is stable\, ad
-free\, free from forced updates\, and nearly immune to viruses. It runs e
fficiently with low resource usage\, and far surpasses Windows in security
and customizability. More importantly\, almost everything you do on a dai
ly basis with Windows—writing documents\, creating presentations\, worki
ng with spreadsheets\, sending and receiving emails\, browsing the web\, a
nd managing files—can be done just as well\, if not better\, on Linux. M
ost common software either has a native Linux version or a high-quality op
 en-source alternative.\nFor researchers\, Linux is the go-to platform for
connecting to supercomputers\, running computational tasks\, and using a w
ide range of scientific computing tools. The Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI
) is launching this Linux Mini-Workshop series. Starting from scratch with
no prior experience required\, we aim to help everyone make a smooth tran
sition from Windows to Linux.\nThe first session will focus on getting sta
rted—installation\, the desktop environment\, and commonly used software
. The second and third sessions will introduce you to essential command-li
ne operations. This series is not limited to three sessions\; additional t
opics will be offered based on your feedback and needs.\n\nhttps://indico-
