Abstract:
This lecture provides the experimentalist's view on the process of indirect search for physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM) in LHC experiments. It reviews how growing integrated luminosity stimulates indirect methods, which probe inaccessible energy regions via anomalous triple and quartic gauge couplings (aTGC/aQGC).
Two model-independent approaches are presented: the vertex function approach and effective field theory (EFT/SMEFT), with EFT currently being the standard. The lecture covers dimension=6 and dimension=8 operators, their classification and bases, and the search for CP-violating BSM physics, as well as experimental methodology for setting limits using the likelihood function and Wilks' theorem. The construction and testing of observables sensitive to CP-violating BSM physics are discussed, based on the lecturer's recent paper in PRD. Prospects for interpreting the obtained limits within candidate models of SM extensions and the role of future HL-LHC data are outlined.

Biography:
Prof. Evgeny Soldatov studied particle physics at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, Russia, where he received his PhD in 2017. He held positions of Research Scientist, Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor at the same institute, where he has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses for many years. Since 2008, he has been a member of the ATLAS experiment at CERN, working within the Standard Model, Egamma, and Heavy Ions scientific groups. From 2020 to 2022, he served as Convener of the PhotonID Egamma group in ATLAS. Since 2026, he has been serving as Deputy Physics Coordinator of the SPD experiment at JINR. His current research focuses on electroweak multiboson production, effective field theory phenomenology, and particle reconstruction and identification algorithms. Prof. Soldatov is the head of two educational programs in Russia and Kazakhstan, and co-chair of the Organizing Committee of the International Conference on Particle Physics and Astrophysics.
