Abstract:
Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) exhibits pronounced nonperturbative features at low energies, and lattice QCD provides a first-principles framework for investigating the nonperturbative properties of the strong interaction. Gradient flow has become a widely used tool in lattice field theory in recent years, effectively smoothing ultraviolet fluctuations and facilitating the definition of renormalized quantities and the study of scale evolution. This talk will briefly introduce the basic ideas of gradient flow and its applications in lattice QCD, with a focus on the nonperturbative determination of the QCD β function using the continuous gradient-flow method. It will then introduce new schemes for the renormalization of flowed fermion operators and ongoing numerical calculations. Finally, in light of current research progress, potential applications of this method in nonperturbative QCD and hadron physics will be discussed.
