Abstract:
As China’s first astronomical satellite, DAMPE has maintained stable in‑orbit operation since 2015 and produced important observational results on cosmic rays and dark‑matter indirect search. The Very Large Area gamma‑ray Space Telescope (VLAST) is the next‑generation flagship mission concept for the Extreme‑Universe science program. VLAST is designed for wide‑band MeV‑TeV gamma‑ray astronomy with large acceptance, targeting dark‑matter indirect detection, cosmic ray origin and GeV time‑domain astronomy. We summarize key DAMPE achievements and report the science goals, detector design and technical pre‑studies of VLAST.
Biography:
Dr. LI Xiang is a professor at Purple Mountain Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is one of the principle leads for data analyses of the DAMPE mission, mainly engaging in detector simulation, data analysis and physics study of high‑energy cosmic‑rays and gamma‑rays. He also participates in technical pre‑research for the next‑generation gamma‑ray space telescope VLAST.
