Description

Abstract:

A new paradigm, where DM is made up of a novel form of matter, called “gapped continuum”, rather than an ordinary particle, will be introduced in this talk.  I will present an effective field theory describing the gapped continuum and show how to deal with the thermodynamics of such a system.  After that, the possibility that dark matter consists of a gapped continuum will be discussed.  The continuum DM can give striking new signatures in cosmic microwave background measurements, while the strong suppression of DM direct detection signals reopens the possibility of a Z-boson-mediated DM.
