Abstract:
Several theories beyond the Standard Model involve enhanced symmetries that introduce new heavy charged gauge vector bosons, usually called W’. A search for W’ decaying to a top quark and a bottom quark will be presented. Two channels are considered: semi-leptonic and all-hadronic. This talk will be focused especially on the semi-leptonic analysis but will also present the combination between both channels. Both right- and left-handed W' are considered, and the interference between W' and SM s-channel single-top process is dealt with properly for the first time in ATLAS. Finally, various couplings between the W’ boson and the SM fermions are scanned to extend the interpretation. Results were obtained using the full run-II data recorded with the ATLAS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV between the years 2015 and 2018.

Biography:
Rui Yuan is a Ph.D candidate working on the ATLAS experiment (completing at the end of 2022). He began his graduate studies at Shandong University in 2015 and was joint-educated with Michigan State University starting from 2016. He worked on PMT testing for the SoLID spectrometer EMC at JLab before he started to work on the ATLAS experiment. He is the main analyzer of the W’->tb analysis team and its liaison to the Heavy Resonance Combination group. He has also contributed to Herwig7 match-box generator studies in the Physics Modelling Group (PMG) within the ATLAS Collaboration.
