Abstract:
Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) aim to unify electromagnetic, strong and weak forces. While proton decay is a well-known prediction of GUTs, correlations between quark and lepton masses and mixing are predicted since all matter fields are arranged in the same representation of SO(10). Next-generation neutrino oscillation experiments are coming soon, we expect the more and more precise data from these experiments will shed light on GUTs soon. On the cosmological side, the breaking of SO(10) to the Standard Model gauge groups generates cosmic strings, which radiates gravitational waves via string oscillation. I will introduce how the GW detections constrain GUT on the another hand. Taking account of the recent PTA results, I will discuss their enlightenment on the future study of GUTs.
Biography:
Dr. Ye-Ling Zhou got BSc in Lanzhou U (2006-2010) and PhD in IHEP (2010-2015). Then, he worked in IPPP Durham and Southampton U as a postdoc before joined Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS) in 2021. He has some representative works on proposing complementary tests of GUTs via GW and neutrino measurements, leptogenesis via phase transition, and multiple modular symmetries as origin of flavour mixing. He has wide interests in neutrino physics, cosmic GW background, GUTs, leptogenesis and thermal field theories.
