主流粒子物理实验研究依赖于大型实验设施的发展,这也带来了巨大的技术进步,使其他领域受益。另一方面,小型粒子物理实验可能会因其他领域的技术突破而出现新的科学机遇。我们提议召开一次轻松、开放的研讨会,聚集来自不同领域的一线科学家,共同探讨粒子物理相关基础科学问题、新技术进展和潜在机遇,探索新思想和新技术结合在一起给小型实验带来的前沿方向,同依赖大型设施粒子物理研究方向相辅相成。此次会议由新基石科学基金会和李政道研究所共同发起,也是将于2025年秋天举办的PPTT Xplore Symposium国际研讨会的预先会议。会议不收取注册费,行程和住宿自理(见“酒店推荐”),会议提供会场、用餐、茶歇等服务。

研讨主题包括:

  • 基本对称性检验(如电偶极矩等)轴子探测
  • 极低反冲测量实验(如轻暗物质、中微子质量等)
  • 引力精密检验/“第五”种力搜寻
  • 量子传感器和精密测量
  • 桌面加速器(我们能用它们做什么)
  • 原子、分子和光学等方法检验广义相对论和量子引力等

 

Mainstream particle physics relies on the development of large experimental facilities, which has also produced enormous technological development which benefits other fields. On the other hand, scientific opportunities for small-scale experiments may arise due to new technological breakthroughs in other fields. We propose an informal workshop which gathers young talents from different fields to brainstorm the potential opportunity to study particle physics and related fundamental question with tabletop experiments. The goal is to identify promising directions which combines novel ideas and novel technologies, and complementary to those relying on large-scale facilities. The workshop is co-sponsored by  the New Cornerstone Science Foundation and Tsung-Dao Lee Institute. It is also a pre-meeting to the PPTT Xplore Symposium to be held in the fall of 2025. 

Intended brainstorm topics

  • Fundamental symmetry tests (electric dipole moment, etc)
  • Axion search
  • Physics that requires unprecedentedly weak recoil measurement (i.e. dark matter, neutrino mass, etc)
  • Gravity/general relativity tests/"5th" force
  • Quantum sensors and precision measurements
  • Tabletop accelerator (what can we do with them)
  • Tests of general relativities and quantum gravity etc using cutting edge atomic, molecular and optical methods
