Molecular Response under Tips

by Dr Sai Duan (Fudan University)

Asia/Shanghai
TDLI Meeting Room N499

TDLI Meeting Room N499

Description
Abstract
Taking advantage of piezoelectric controlled scanners, the amazing spatial resolution for molecular response under tips has been achieved, which provides a perfect investigating framework for single-molecule. In this context, the optical and electric perturbations accompanying the tips facilitate external stimuli-source for molecular probing, resulting in the high-resolution Raman and scanning tunneling microscope (STM) images, respectively. This talk will focus on the recent development of an entirely new theoretical framework for Raman images as well as the comprehensive simulations of the high-resolution STM images at the first-principles level. The practical applications of the new theory of Raman images to the different molecular responses will be discussed. In addition, quantitative simulations of STM measurements, which provide a new understanding of in-situ molecular geometrical and electronic structures, will also be given.
Biography

Sai Duan received his BSc from Xiamen University, China, in 2004. He obtained his PhD in Chemistry from Xiamen University in 2011 supervised by Prof. Zhong-Qun Tian and Prof. Xin Xu and then in Theoretical Chemistry and Biology from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden, in 2012 supervised by Prof. Yi Luo. During 2012–2018 he worked at KTH as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Yi Luo’s group and was promoted to Researcher. Dr. Duan moved to Fudan University, China, in 2018 and is currently a Young Researcher in the Department of Chemistry at Fudan University. His research interests focus on developments and applications of theory for super-resolution techniques.
