Abstract

Time measurements play an important role in the study of subatomic physical world. In this talk, I will start with a general discussion on the physics background, the time measurement technics, and their impacts. Then, I will focus on the ongoing campaigns at the Large Hadron Collider to embrace precision time-measurement capabilities for the high luminosity era. Examples on the physics potentials will be shown and discussed.

Biography

Dr. Yusheng Wu currently holds a junior professorship (特任教授) at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He acquired both bachelor’s degree (2008) and doctor’s degree (2012) at USTC, and he worked for University of Michigan between 2013 and 2017 as a postdoctoral researcher. Dr. Wu’s research focuses on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, involving physics studies at electroweak and TeV scales, as well as detector studies for high luminosity LHC. He has served multiple roles in the ATLAS collaboration, and currently is a co-chair of ATLAS speakers committee and a co-convener of the software, performance, and physics group for High Granularity Timing Detector, a project for ATLAS Phase-II detector upgrade.
