Description
Abstract:
Certain dimension-8 operator coefficients in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) are subject to positivity bounds, obtained by requiring a UV completion that obeys the fundamental principles of quantum field theory. In this talk, I will give a brief introduction to positivity bounds, explain why it is both interesting and challenging to test these bounds at colliders, and discuss certain processes that can be useful for such tests. I will also discuss the impacts of loop contributions to the interpretation of positivity bounds. In particular, a strict positivity bound can only be implied when all contributions at the same loop order are considered, and the one-loop generated dimension-8 operator coefficients (as well as their beta functions) may not be subject to the tree-level bounds.
