Meeting Room N602, Tsung-Dao Lee Institute

Description

Abstract:

We shall review the matrix model description of fractional quantum Hall effect, e.g. Laughlin wave-function and Blok-Wen state constructed from the finite N matrix model. Quantum geometry and fuzzy space is constructed as the underlying space of quantum theory. We shall discuss how to construct conformal field theories by taking large N limit. Dynamics of the non-commutative  Chern-Simons theory and its relation with string theory will also be discussed.

Biography:

Prof. Sen Hu is working at the School of Mathematical Sciences at USTC, specialized in Mathematical Physics. He received his bachelor degree from USTC (Guo Mo-Ruo Prize), master degree from The System Science Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences supervised by Academician Prof. WU Wen-Jun, and PhD from Princeton Univ. mentored by Prof. John Mather and Prof. William Thurston (Fields Medalist). Prof. Hu used to work in Princeton Institute for Advanced Study, École Polytechnique of France, Northwest University and CUNY. His main interests are in mathematical constructions of quantum field theories and strings. He has been working on AdS/CFT, flux compactifications and matrix models, generalized Calabi-Yau manifold and mirror symmetry, Generalized Ricci flow, etc. Prof. Hu served as the executive director of Mathematical Physics Institute at USTC, and is currently the director of the Chinese Academy of Sciences WU Wen-Jun Mathematics Key Lab.
