Abstract:
QCD suffers from the strong CP problem and a new particle called the axion is predicted by arguably the best solution requiring physics beyond Standard Model.
Recently, there have been revived interests in the studies of the standard QCD axion and its extensions in astrophysics, cosmology, and particle physics phenomenologies.
In this lecture, we will introduce the basics of axion physics and discuss recent developments. The lecture will cover the following four main topics.
1. U(1)_A problem and vacuum structure of QCD
2. Strong CP problem and PQ mechanism
3. Axion dynamics and phenomenology
4. Searches for axion and alike
Brief Biography:
Eung Jin Chun's research focuses on theories beyond the Standard Model. He has been working on superstring and supersymmetry phenomenology, and more recently on neutrino and dark matter properties to search for the fundamental theory in connection with cosmological and astrophysical observations, and collider experiments like LHC.
