Abstract

Multi-messenger observations of binary neutron star mergers have enabled us to constrain the equation of state of dense matter and hence explore the phase diagram of strong interaction. In this talk, I will focus on the scenario of a first order strong interaction phase transition at the density range which could be achieved during a merger event and its impact on the observations. Another consequence of the phase transition, i.e., the existence of bare quark stars, is also explored by investigating the post-merger behavior of binary quark stars.

Biography

Enping Zhou obtained his Ph.D in the Department of Astronomy in Peking University  in 2018. After that, he worked as a post-doc in the Computational Relativistic Astrophysics division in Max-Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Potsdam) for 3 years. Since 2021, he works in Huazhong University of Science and Technology as an associate professor. Enping's research interest is numerical relativity and particularly its applications in astrophysics, i.e., constraining the equation of state of dense matter by binary merger events.
