Stellar magnetic activity is a phenomenon of stellar atmospheric variability caused by the stellar magnetic field, typically starspots, flares, CMEs, etc. Stellar rotation, as a fundamental stellar parameter, is directly related to stellar evolution and magnetic activity. Based on Kepler light curve, we explored a systematic approach to search for stars with long rotation periods similar to the Sun, providing a good sample for the study of magnetic activity of Sun-like stars and the estimation of stellar ages. We also extend the study of magnetic activity to binary star systems, which can help us understand the role played by magnetic fields in the evolution of binary stars.
Kaiming Cui is currently a Ph.D. candidate in astrophysics at the National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC), and he will join TDLI as a postdoc with Prof. Fabo Feng. His research is focusing on stellar systems, including the stellar evolution, stellar magnetic activity and the effects on exoplanets, and physical properties of binary systems.
