The workshop Axion-Photon Conversion: Terrestrial and Cosmic Searches will be held from September 6–20, 2026 at the Tsung-Dao Lee Center for Sciences and Arts (TDLCSA) in Dali, Yunnan, China. Organized by the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with strong support from the State Key Laboratory of Dark Matter Physics, the workshop will bring together researchers from high-intensity laser-plasma physics, particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology to explore experimental and astrophysical approaches to axion-photon conversion and axion searches.

The workshop aims to strengthen connections between experimental axion searches and astrophysical studies of axion-photon conversion. Current efforts at TDLI include the development of ultra-intense laser-plasma facilities for axion generation and detection, as well as laboratory astrophysics platforms that simulate extreme electromagnetic environments. These experimental programs are closely connected to astronomical observations, including fast radio bursts and other time-domain surveys, offering complementary approaches to probing axion physics. Through interdisciplinary discussions and collaborations, participants will explore new opportunities for both laboratory-based and astronomical searches for axions.

Founded by distinguished overseas Chinese scholars, TDLCSA embraces the vision of Nobel Laureate Professor Tsung-Dao Lee that science and art are two sides of the same coin. The center is dedicated to fostering a world-class Aspen-style environment for academic exchange, bringing together scientists and artists from around the world. Located between Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake, it provides an inspiring setting for open dialogue, interdisciplinary collaboration, and creative thinking.

Following an Aspen-style format, the workshop emphasizes extended interaction and in-depth scientific exchange in an informal setting. Participants are free to arrange their schedules throughout the two-week period and are encouraged to stay for at least one week. In addition to scheduled discussions and meetings, ample time will be available for spontaneous conversations, focused brainstorming sessions, and collaborative research activities in the unique environment of Dali.
